NOVEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

Kicking off the November deadlines is the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) Fed Steer Shootout Entry Deadline, Nov. 1. The NJHA Fed Steer Shootout is an industry-leading opportunity for members to gain invaluable industry education and experience, giving them the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of the cattle feeding and packing industries through a comprehensive educational contest. Delivery dates to HRC Feed Yards, Scott City, Kan., are December 9-13, 2023, and Trey Befort, tbefort@herefordbeef.org, is willing to work with each of you to ensure junior members can participate in the program. The NJHA congratulates all of the Fed Steer Shootout winners who were recognized in Kansas City at the American Hereford Association’s Annual Meeting. More than $15,000 in cash prizes and awards was given to all of the high placing steers and juniors from last year’s contest. Jarrett Worrell, Mason, Texas, and Abigail Billing, Newton, N.J., were named the junior and senior contestants of the year.

NJHA members were the benefactors of more than $160,000 in scholarships awarded in Kansas City. The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) salutes all of this fall’s scholarship winners and encourages you to keep applying for funds to assist with college. Meet all of the fall recipients HERE.

Also on Nov. 1, the Willard Wolf Memorial and John Ascuaga Hereford Scholarship applications are due. All Western States Hereford Association junior members are eligible for these scholarships that honor the Hereford legacies of Wolf and Ascuaga. $3,000 will be awarded in scholarships from the Willard Wolf Fund and $3,000 will be awarded from the John Ascuaga Fund. Be on the lookout for the 2024 BOLD conference applications coming soon. Once live, those applications will be due Feb. 15 for the conference on April 4-7. This elite leadership opportunity will be a can’t miss event hosted by GKB Cattle in Desdemona, Texas, at their Hi Point Ranch.

GRAND DRIVE TO 25

To celebrate 25 years, it is only fitting to look ahead to the next 25 and sustaining the legacy of the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE). To commemorate this milestone, HYFA is offering special Grand Drive to 25 donor packages to all of our valued partners who make up the history and future of the JNHE.

We are so thankful for the first partners who kicked off the fundraising for the “Grand Daddy of ‘Em All,” during the Ladies of the Royal Sale, by purchasing the iconic lot one street sign. Hoffman Ranch, Thedford, Neb., and Stellpflug Cattle Co., LLC, Glenrock, Wyo., joined together, topping the sale at an impressive $25,000, with the partners choosing to double down on their support for a total commitment of $50,000 over two years, securing the sponsorship in the polled female show at the JNHE.

The 2024 JNHE will be held in Grand Island, Neb., July 6-12, and we tip our hats to these generous donors. One year, two, three, four and five year packages are available and may be customized to fit each donor. UNWRAP THE SEASON OF GIVING

The Hereford Season of Giving, hosted by HYFA, is back for the second year in a row and will be Dec. 4-8. Throughout the weeklong event, challenge gifts will be unwrapped as online donations are made to support HYFA’s pillars of education, leadership, research and scholarship.

Thanks to an outpouring of support, in 2022 HYFA celebrated $135,000 in the first ever season of giving annual campaign. In 2023, the goal is $150,000 and 500 online donors. The foundation invites you to celebrate the season and join this fundraising effort to benefit all of NJHA’s leadership an educational programs. Donors may specify which pillar they would like to give to at the time of giving.
