KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Whitney Steckel, Taylor, Neb., received a $2,500 scholarship awarded by the Blin Family and Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) on Oct. 27 at the American Hereford Association (AHA) Hereford Honorees Reception during the AHA Annual Meeting and Conference in Kansas City, Mo. This scholarship was one of 23 awarded by HYFA, totaling more than $147,500.
The 18-year-old daughter of Michael and Donna Steckel, Whitney is a freshman majoring in agricultural communications at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Whitney served as the 2016 Nebraska Hereford Queen and was recently named a finalist for the Nebraska State Star Farmer. With her degree in agricultural communications, she hopes to help bridge the gap between producers and consumers and promote the beef industry.
Jim and Randy Blin families, from Independence, Iowa, were owners of the dispersed Star Lake Cattle Ranch in Oklahoma, and are longtime supporters of Hereford youth.
