The National Junior Hereford Association Fed Steer Shootout is now accepting cattle entries for the 2018 contest. The cattle delivery dates are set for Oct. 30 – Nov. 3, 2017.
“The 2017 contest proved to be a good start to the program with 72 head of cattle entered from 27 junior members from 10 states across the country,” said Trey Befort, American Hereford Association director of commercial programs. “The contest provided many educational experiences ranging from ultrasound data to feedlot performance and carcass data. We also held a series of webinars we plan to expand in the 2018 contest.”
If you are interested in participating in the 2018 contest but unable to deliver your cattle to Gregory Feedlots, Tabor, Iowa, please contact the AHA.
“We are willing to help facilitate alternate delivery points for the contest,” Befort said. “We can work to help coordinate locations where cattle can be brought to one regionalized point and shipped from there to Gregory Feedlots.”
Results from the 2017 contest will be revealed at the 2017 AHA Annual Meeting and Conference. To learn more about the NJHA Fed Steer Shootout, please plan to attend the Fed Steer Shootout session during the AHA Annual Meeting and Conference educational forum Oct. 27.
“As we wrap up the 2017 NJHA Fed Steer Shootout, we are looking forward to growing the program in 2018 and years to come,” Befort said. “This is a great opportunity for youth to learn about this side of the industry and we encourage everyone to participate.”
