DECEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

The holiday season is among us, and the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) is continuing to celebrate the festivities! Applications for the 2023 BOLD conference are live, it will be held March 23-26, in Desdemona, Texas. The Western States Hereford Show kicks off the month of December in Reno, Nev., and cattle arrive to the HRC Feed Yards, in Scott City, Kan., for the 2023 NJHA Fed Steer Shootout contest.

Additionally, the applications for the 2023 Youth Activities Internship and the JNHE Ambassador program are open and close on Feb. 1, 2023. This year the youth activities department will hire one-two interns to help with both the JNHE in Madison, Wis., and the Faces of Leadership conference in Columbus, Ohio. The Ambassador Team will be dedicated to the JNHE and travel to Madison with the team, during their mini-internship. If you know a junior member who will not be showing this summer, or and individual in college who wants experience in breed associations, have them apply today!

HEREFORD SEASON OF GIVING

From Dec. 12-16, of this month the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA), is hosting the Hereford Season of Giving. Each day of that week, donations of any amount go towards an overall goal, and if the number of donors is met, a generous sponsor has provided a large sum that unlocks. For example, when the first goal of 30 donations (of any dollar amount) given to the pillars of HYFA is reached, Priefert has generously donated $5,000 that will be unlocked and then available for the next generation of Hereford youth. And it keeps getting more exciting each day! Any amount helps go towards unlocking these challenges and raising funds for HYFA that will support generations to come.

Additionally, each donation made, no matter the size, will enter you into a drawing for the Hereford branded Priefert chute. Donate multiple times throughout the season, and be entered multiple times for the drawing.

JNHE RULE CHANGE ALERT

A new rule for the steer show will take effect during the 2023 VitaFerm Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Madison, Wis., July 8-14. This rule was voted on and installed by the NJHA board. The new rule reads as follows:

“All steers will be required to be parent verified to both sire and dam, therefore, a DNA profile of the steer, the sire and dam must be completed through the official AHA lab by entry deadline. To request a DNA kit for your animal, access your MyHerd or contact AHA customer service.”
