SEPTEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

The National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) is charging forward into the fall season and we hope your school year is off to a good start. From scholarships applications and the NJHA Fed Steer Shootout Portfolio Project, to the National Hereford Queen applications, the excellence of Hereford juniors will be continue to be recognized this fall.

Each year, the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) offers more than $200,000 worth of scholarships, and the largest giveaway happens during the American Hereford Association (AHA) Annual Meeting and Educational Forum. With more than $160,000 in scholarships set to be given out this fall, we look forward to welcoming NJHA members to Kansas City and rewarding all the fall HYFA Scholars.

Applications for fall HYFA scholarships are due on Sept. 1. through Submittable, and the Western States Hereford Scholarships are coming soon and will be due Nov. 1 through Submittable.

JUNIOR MEMBERS INVITED TO ATTEND THE 2024 AHA ANNUAL MEETING & EDUCATIONAL FORUM

All NJHA Members are invited to attend the 2024 AHA Annual Meeting & Educational Forum, Oct. 24-27, in Kansas City, Mo., hosted at the Kansas City Marriott. During this event, Hereford juniors will be recognized at the NJHA Youth Awards Luncheon that showcases scholarship recipients as well as winners of the NJHA Fed Steer Shootout. NJHA members will take center stage in Hale Arena during the American Royal National Hereford Show and the 2024 National Hereford Queen will be crowned. In addition to all of these activities,  the NJHA Meet Up returns on Friday evening for any junior members who make the trip to Kansas City.

NJHA Fed Steer Shootout educational finalists will compete in the morning on Oct. 25, for the title of high junior in their respective age division. To learn more about the AHA Annual Meeting and to pre-register for the various events, please visit the link below.

SHOW US WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED – NJHA FED STEER SHOOTOUT PORTFOLIO PROJECT

Junior members who participate in the NJHA Fed Steer Shootout program have access to a library of resources to learn about the beef cattle feeding industry and what happens to the cattle after they move on from a cow-calf operation through the harvest phase of production. A final portfolio project, for those who wish to compete for additional scholarships and awards, is the final portion of the contest.

From the entries submitted, the top 3 in each age group are given the opportunity to further compete for the title of Shootout Contestant of the Year during the AHA Annual Meeting & Educational Forum.
