KANSAS CITY. Mo. – Millers Markets, with stores in Indiana and Ohio, received the Certified Hereford Beef® (CHB) Rising Star Retailer of the Year award Oct. 25, in Kansas City, Mo., during the 2025 World Hereford Conference and American Hereford Association (AHA) Annual Meeting.

Millers Markets is a three-generation family business founded in 1958 in Wauseon, Ohio, by the late Joseph Miller. Today, his grandchildren oversee Miller Markets alongside his son, Garry.

Garry and his siblings grew up working in the store. He married his wife, Rebecca, in 1973 and shortly after purchased a former Kroger store in LaGrange, Ind. Using the knowledge he learned working for his father, Garry was able to grow the business from one store into 10 locations in Ohio and Indiana.

Garry stepped away from the day-to-day operations in 2015 and now his kids, Jennifer, Joe and Mike, oversee the company. As third-generation business owners, they know failure is not an option.

The day each child turned 15, Garry dropped them off at the front door of the grocery store and instructed them to speak to Dan, the store manager, and ask him for a job. Garry and Rebecca’s children have been involved in every aspect of the grocery business, from shoveling horse manure to managing stores. They know the business inside and out — Garry made sure his kids knew cleaning the restrooms are as important as managing the store.

The Millers introduced Certified Hereford Beef to their store in 1996. Knowing that having the best beef would set us apart from our competitors, they wanted to offer a premium beef brand to their customers. For nearly 30 years, the Millers have sold CHB in their stores.

CHB has allowed the company to emphasize quality, which in turn promotes trust amongst their customers. They know every cut of beef they purchase is going to be consistent, flavorful and high-quality, and that they’re getting the most out of their dollar. Miller Markets is proud to have been partnered with CHB for 29 years.

The 19th annual World Hereford Conference, Oct. 22-26, 2025, in Kansas City, Mo., features an educational forum, a celebration of high-achieving and influential Hereford breeders of all ages, an international sale and National Hereford Show.

The World Hereford Conference takes place every four years when delegates of the World Hereford Council meet to conduct official business aimed at breed improvement and opportunity development. It is a time for Hereford breeders from around the world to network and learn from one another — the U.S. is hosting for the first time since 1996.
