The NJHA, through its extensive educational programs, continues to lay the foundation for the beef industry’s future leaders. The traditions of the past coupled with the energy of today’s board of directors have created a progressive approach to further develop a meaningful and educational association focus.
The NJHA is celebrating #MembershipMarch and highlighting what juniors have to say about being in the NJHA. Read about it below.

“My name is Bailey Morrell and I have been a member of the NJHA since I was 7, which means I have been a part of this amazing association for 11 years. My favorite part of being a member of the NJHA is the opportunity to travel and attend shows such as the JNHE and the Western States Show in Reno. I enjoy reconnecting with friends from across the country at these events, friends who I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to get to know without the NJHA. I am incredibly excited for the California-Nevada Junior Hereford Association, my home association, to be one of the host states for the 2019 JNHE in Denver! I cannot wait to reconnect with everyone this summer when Herefords are on the Hill!

“I have been involved with NJHA almost my whole life, even before I could pull a calf. One of the best things about participating is traveling around the country and meeting people from all over. Building relationships is an important part of NJHA.
I have met and made friends with people from many different states. We all work hard and share the love of working with livestock. Talking about the competitions and meeting each other’s families and animals is awesome.
My mother, father, and sometimes my brothers all enjoy our time traveling and participating in NJHA. We get to go to new places and revisit familiar ones. Of course, the relationship I have with my heifers is also very important to me. Building that trust takes patience – slow and steady wins the race.
I have learned a lot about myself by having to show my animals. For the last two years, I have had to learn public speaking, which was not so easy at first. Over time I have grown more confident and I am sure to keep improving these skills. My Papa tells me that these skills like determination, patience, tolerance, and speaking in public will help me as I grow up. So, I get to learn while having fun.”

“A highlight of my summer is for sure getting the opportunity to attend JNHE, this event is always second to none and after my first JNHE I wanted more. Not only because of the friends I meet that I will have for a lifetime but watching the junior board go above and beyond as well as the board candidates and the junior board directors just goes to show how deep the passion runs within the Hereford industry. To say I am extra and very thankful for the friends I have met and the relationships I will build through this breed is an understatement. Without a doubt the Hereford breed is the best and I commend all the hard work the Advisors, Members, and Leaders of this breed put in to showcase the best breed.”

“It’s the places that it takes me and the people that I meet. Senator Joni Ernst showed a steer that I raised, and I got interviewed by Governor Kim Reynolds. Some of my very best friends I met showing Herefords. I also got to see mountains for the first time from the Denver Stock Show.”
