MADISON, Wis. – Lights, camera, throw the Certified Hereford Beef®(CHB) on the grill; Hereford juniors enter an original cooking show. The CHB Cook-Off evaluates virtual cooking video submissions featuring CHB dishes prior to the VitaFerm®Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE). Top entries were honored during JNHE in Madison, Wis., on July 12.
During the contest, National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members think outside the box to create their own NJHA cooking show episode. The contest encourages creativity, communication and beef handling safety while promoting CHB. Points are earned for showmanship, creativity, presentation of the dish, use of recipe and explanation. Exhibitors were also judged based on their ability to communicate and explain CHB products and food safety, along with their use of CHB cuts in recipes and general knowledge.
Each participant prepared a unique dish featuring CHB. The senior division winner of the CHB Cook-Off was Devon Lockhart, Caldwell, Texas. Lockhart’s dish, smoked Certified Hereford Beef rib roll with brussel sprouts and tomato mozzarella salad, was one of the judge’s top picks. Her knowledge of CHB and the Hereford breed coupled with an outstanding presentation, sealed the win.
