Team Hereford was well represented at the 2019 National Collegiate Livestock Judging Contest that took place at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 18. Participants included National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) board director Samuel Lawrence; Hereford juniors Keayla Harr, Hattie Duncan, Miles Stagemeyer and Jackson Neil; former NJHA ambassador Kylie Patterson; and former Hereford Publications Inc. intern Adrian Austin.

“The AHA is extremely proud of our Hereford youth and those who have been a part of Team Hereford,” says Bailey Clanton, American Hereford Association national shows coordinator and youth activities assistant. “Our industry is in great hands with our future leaders.”

The judging contest consisted of five classes of beef cattle, four classes of swine, two classes of sheep and one class of meat goats. Below are the Hereford juniors who placed in the top 10 in individual categories and overall teams.

Patterson took the first overall individual honor along with being a member of Oklahoma State University’s first overall team and first performance overall team. She was awarded first in overall reasons, second high individual in swine, eighth high individual in performance swine, third high individual in swine reasons and sixth high individual in cattle.

Austin was awarded third high individual in cattle, second high individual in cattle reasons, sixth high individual in swine reasons, fourth in overall reasons and was a member of Kansas State University’s second overall team and fourth performance overall team.

Lawrence placed first high individual in swine, tenth high individual in performance swine, seventh high individual in swine reasons and was also a member of Kansas State University’s second overall team and fourth performance overall team.

Stagemeyer and Neil were members of South Dakota State University’s ninth overall team and seventh performance overall team. Neil also placed ninth high individual in cattle.
