KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The stakes were high as judges Matt and Cliff Copeland, Nara Visa, N.M., sorted the 91-head Hereford bull show and 266-head Hereford female show at the 2022 Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City. A total of 727 Herefords were exhibited throughout the four-day national Hereford show, Jan. 5-8.

Buck Cattle Co., Madill, Okla., was recognized as both horned and polled premier breeders. The polled premier exhibitor was Gary and Kathy Buchholz, Waxahachie, Texas. Polled premier exhibitor was awarded to Hayes Devine, Chickasha, Okla.

Below are the champions from the open bull and female shows.

Bull Show Champions

The champion polled bull went to Crayton and Cora Belle Chapman, Seneca, Ill., and Michael P rez, Nara Visa, N.M., with PCC 7009 173D Maverick 0183 ET, sired by NJW 79Z Z311 Endure 173D ET. The Feb. 16, 2020, entry was first named champion yearling bull.

Ben and Kevin Jensen, Courtland, Kan.; Bar A Cattle Co., Nocona, Texas; and TWJ Farms, Carroll, Neb.,was named reserve champion polled bull with KJ TWJ 907E Liberty 159H ET. Sired by KJ BJ 309C Leader 182F, this champion senior bull calf was born Sept. 2, 2020.

Aidyn Barber, Channing, Texas; Ryon Cox, Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Edwards Ranch, May, Texas; and Drew P rez, Canyon, Texas, took home horned champion honors with BR ER Big Country 007 ET. This son of BR Hutton 4030ET was born April 8, 2020, and was first named champion yearling bull.

Dry Creek Farm, Pell City, Ala.; Buck Cattle Company, Madill, Okla.; and Hoffman Herefords, Thedford, Neb., received the horned reserve champion bull banner with DCF 642Z Dilly 002H. The reserve champion yearling bull was born Jan. 1, 2020, and sired by BR Duncan 4142.

Female Show Champions

Blake Bruns, North Platte, Neb., claimed the horned champion female title with H Pixie 0635 ET, sired by H Montgomery 7437 ET. The Aug. 29, 2020, female was first awarded champion senior heifer calf.

The horned reserve champion female went to Grady and Hudson Carter, Stratford, Okla., with BK Just Flashy 154J. The BK BH Fast Ball F102 ET daughter was born March 9, 2021, and was first awarded champion spring heifer calf.

Bryden Barber, Channing, Texas, and his champion spring yearling female, BR Merida H031 ET, were awarded the polled champion female title. This daughter of UPS Sensation 2296 ET was born March 21, 2020. Kinnick Paulsen, Preston, Iowa, with OHR Miss VIP 510 ET, claimed polled reserve champion female. The April 20, 2021, entry was sired by CH High Roller 756 ET and was first awarded the champion spring heifer calf.
