The Hereford breed had a strong presence at the 42nd annual Iowa Beef Expo sale. 295 consignors from 12 states sold 608 lots to buyers from 23 states for gross sales of over $1.8 million at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
Of those sales, Hereford cattle represented 62 lots from 45 consignors grossing $242,850, the second highest grossing breed of the sale. Hereford cattle claimed the highest average in bulls, females, and the overall lots for all breeds represented. Hereford bulls averaged $3898 ($675 higher than the sale average), hereford females averaged $3,935 ($951 higher than the sale average), and total Hereford live lot average was $3,917 ($851 higher than the live lot average for all other breeds represented at the sale combined).
