Representatives of leading cattle breed associations gathered for collaboration and product training at the 2019 Neogen® GeneSeek® Breed Council Forum in Lincoln, Neb., July 23–24. Stacy Sanders, Laura Loschke and Tayler Kennedy of the American Hereford Association (AHA) attended the two-day forum, where they participated in hands-on learning sessions and peer-to-peer roundtable discussions.
Andy Dorn, beef business development manager at Allflex® USA, and representatives from GeneSeek presented current product updates to attendees. Sanders, Loschke and Kennedy got a sneak peek at new products yet to hit the market and participated in a workshop about GeneSeek’s Lab Information Management System (LIMS), which showcased efficient ways to relay information, reports and animal data back to AHA breeders. Before the formal forum presentations, they also toured the Neogen GeneSeek lab and had one-on-one meetings with GeneSeek staff.
“The GeneSeek Breed Council Forum is always a great experience,” says Loschke, who has attended the forum three consecutive years. “The opportunity to network with peers, see the processes at the GeneSeek lab and to talk with their employees on how we can help each other improve is so valuable. We’re thankful GeneSeek hosts this event every year to give all of the associations that opportunity.”
As a first time attendee, Kennedy notes the value this forum provides the AHA staff. “I really enjoyed learning more about the entire DNA testing process at GeneSeek’s lab, as well as some of the break-out sessions that involved topics from looking deeper into the future of DNA to helping our breeders understand the importance of genetic testing,” she says.
