KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Prior to the National Hereford Bull Show at the 2022 American Royal hosted in Kansas City, Mo., Madison Katzenberger, Monroe, Wis., was selected to represent the breed as the 2023 National Hereford Queen. Five state queens from across the country represented their respective state with the goal of being selected as the National Hereford Queen. Katzenberger is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin Platteville (UWP) with a bachelor’s degree in animal science and a minor in Spanish. Her first official event as the National Hereford Queen will be at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.

The National Hereford Queen attends events, shows and sales, including the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) to present awards and assist with ring presentations. This young lady is a breed icon, as she is dawned in a white dress, boots, statement sash and classic crown. The National Hereford Women support this program and in conjunction with the Hereford Youth Foundation of America, the queen will receive a $10,000 scholarship at the conclusion of her reign to support her future education.

Madison has been a member of the Wisconsin Junior Hereford Association for 15 years and is currently serving as the association president. She has attended JNHE 14 times, and she has participated in a broad array of activities. She was voted Outstanding State Junior representing the state of Wisconsin at the 2022 JNHE.

“I am truly honored that I was chosen to represent the breed in such a capacity. Being the National Hereford Queen has been a goal of mine since I was a little girl, and I am excited to see where this opportunity takes me,” says Katzenberger. “This year, I plan to be a strong advocate for all things Hereford related and I want to use my new position to reach a broader audience and teach all who want to listen about what the Hereford breed has to offer.”

The National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) is one of the largest, strongest and most active junior cattle programs in the country.
