KANSAS CITY, Mo. – As the national show season begins to wrap up, the hard work of Hereford juniors was on full display during the 2023 Cattlemen’s Congress, Jan. 4 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Judges Tyler Cates and Kyle Shoufler, Modoc, Ind., sorted the 194 head of junior heifers.

“I love your breed. I love your leadership, and your kids are amazing,” Cates said during the selection of the champion polled junior female.

Maddie Jenkins, Athens, Texas, exhibited the grand champion horned female in the national junior Hereford show. The winning entry and champion junior yearling female, BACC 228Z Tara 108 ET, is a Feb. 19, 2021, daughter of KLD RW Marksman D87 ET.

BOY Fiona 243K ET, owned by Mattie and Marcie Harward, Richfield, N.C., received reserve grand champion horned female honors. This March 2, 2022, daughter of UPS Sensation 2296 ET was first named champion spring heifer calf.

Paige Lemenager, Hudson, Ill., won the grand champion polled female title with HAWK Myla 39J ET, after first claiming champion intermediate yearling female honors. She is a May 21, 2021, daughter of KLD RW Marksman D87 ET.

Sara Sullivan, Dunlap, Iowa, exhibited the reserve grand champion polled female with BK CMCC Jungle Girl 147J ET. The female is a March 3, 2021, daughter of SR Dominate 308F ET. She was first named champion spring yearling female.
