KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Barnes Herefords, Marietta, Ga., and C&L Hereford Ranch, Ixonia, Wis., collectively bid $17,500 for the 2022 Lot 1 Choice of Champions, consigned by the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) during the American Hereford Association (AHA) Ladies of the Royal Sale in Kansas City on Oct. 22.

The Choice of Champions lot offers the historic street sign to the high bidder that will be displayed with their ranch name in the AHA office as well as in the showring for the duration of the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Madison, Wis. Along with the street sign, the high bidder also wins the choice of sponsoring the grand champion polled or the grand champion horned female during the JNHE. Barnes Herefords purchased this lot for $12,000, choosing the polled female as their sponsorship and having their name advertised throughout the year.

Next to sell was the horned champion sponsorship. C&L Hereford Ranch claimed this lot for $5,500, and will be the sponsor of the 2023 horned champion female at the 2023 JNHE. All funds from this sale benefit the NJHA and the 2023 JNHE which will be hosted in Madison Wis., July 8-14. Supporters such as Barnes Herefords and C&L Hereford Ranch are what make events like the JNHE possible and the success of the NJHA to continue to grow.
