MADISON, Wis. – Junior finalists competed in sales contests at the 2023 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” on July 10, in Madison, Wis. Judges chose the top-three individuals in each contest division.

Individual Sales 

Participants “sell” a product to a panel of judges using visual aids and salesmanship skills during the individual sales contest. This contest provides junior members with experience marketing an animal, semen, embryos or other agricultural products. Held in a hybrid format this year, contestants submitted a video illustrating their sales abilities and were judged by agricultural industry professionals. Finalists then presented again in Madison, Wis. The National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) sponsored this contest.

The top-three individual sales participants were: 

Junior: 

1. Jarrett Worrell, Mason, Texas
2. Lillian Schut, Belding, Mich.
3. Hudson Carter, Hollis, Okla. 

Sales Academy 

Sales academy provides intermediate and senior division contestants with a glimpse into real-world cattle sales and marketing. Contestants combine their communication and marketing skills prior to a “live sale” with an understanding of performance and pedigree information. Contestants submitted marketing materials for their animal prior to the JNHE and gave a sales pitch to a panel of judges at the event. The contest is also sponsored by the NJHA.

The top-placing sales academy presenters were:

Intermediate: 

1. Joseph Schohr, Oroville, Calif.
2. Kendall Boatman, Rockford, Ill.
3. Taylor Marrs, Macomb, Okla.

Senior: 

1. Matthew Elzemeyer, Richmond, Ind.
2. Madison Sifford, Goldvein, Va. 

Exhibitors from 38 states and Canada plan to participate in the “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” July 8-14. More than 500 NJHA members are excited to participate in educational and leadership programs throughout the week-long event. Contests range from the future professionals and Hereford bowl to cattle  judging and fitting.  The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) supports these educational and scholarship opportunities.
