Mark Johnson is an Animal Science and Ag Business graduate from South Dakota State University. After working in positions with Genex and Cargill, he has spent the past 15 years as a Cattle Marketing Agent for Producers Livestock Marketing, an Omaha NE based cooperative. Mark’s territory covers North and South Dakota where he will buy and sell over 100,000 head of feeder and fed cattle for his clients annually. In his position he strives to keep his cattle operations competitive and profitable through a mix of traditional and creative risk management and marketing strategies.
It is within that same approach that he, along with his wife Jeanne and sons Trevor and Tate operate their first-generation Hereford and Angus seedstock operation “Sleepy Hollow Farm”. Their family has been very active in Hereford activities, Jeanne and Mark serve as South Dakota Junior Advisors as well as Co-Managers of the South Dakota Hereford Assoc. 2019 will mark the fifth year of their production sale, “The I-29 Bull Run” which is held in March with other like-minded area breeders and also features commercial females from participating customers. Their family has plans to continue to sustainably scale their cattle operation in the coming years.
