Dr. Dan Shike

Dr. Dan Shike, Sadorus, Ill., with his wife, Jennifer and 3 children; Olivia, Hunter, and Harper. Shike is an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois and is responsible for teaching and research in beef cattle nutrition and management in addition to serving as the coordinator for the Livestock Judging team. Dan coached 11 teams (2001-2011) at the University of Illinois with teams winning at the National Barrow Show and the American Royal.
Dr. Shike is also the faculty supervisor for the University of Illinois’s 3 beef cattle operations; a 175 cow purebred Angus operation on campus, a 225 cow registered SimAngus operation in western Illinois, and a 800 cow commercial Angus operation in southern Illinois. Shike’s research focuses on identifying nutritional strategies and management practices that improve efficiency, reproduction, and profitability in beef cow/calf production.
Dan has judged shows in over 35 states, including shows at the American Royal, Arizona National, Fort Worth Stock Show, Georgia National, Houston Livestock Show, National Junior Angus Show, National Junior Limousin Show, National Junior Shorthorn Show, National Junior Summer Spectacular, National Western Stock Show, North American International Livestock Exposition, Oklahoma Youth Expo, San Antonio Stock Show, State Fair of Texas and Tulsa State Fair as well as internationally at the Sydney Royal and Royal Adelaide in Australia.
