A busy month ahead as Hereford breeders and enthusiasts from across the country descend for the American Hereford Association (AHA) Annual Meeting and Educational Forum, Oct. 24-27 at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown. Special events and recognitions are in store for the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members during this time and we can’t wait to celebrate Hereford youth.

During the AHA Annual Meeting and Educational Forum, Hereford juniors will be recognized at the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) Scholarship Presentation and NJHA Awards Luncheon. The luncheon will showcase scholarship winners and NJHA Fed Steer Shootout contest winners. Finally, during the American Royal National Hereford Show, one special junior member will be crowned as the newly elected National Hereford Queen.

LET’S MEET UP

Back by popular demand, the NJHA Meet-up: Building on Confidence, Community and Connection returns for an evening of networking and connection, gathering juniors together in Kansas City. Friday Oct. 25, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Marriott Hotel Downtown. There will be entertainment, networking and a time for NJHA members to connect during the event with friends from across the country.

GIVE BACK TO THE PILLARS OF HYFA

The Foundation 1 Campaign was initiated by Sierra Ranches, Modesto, Calif., with the intent that 1% of the proceeds of their fall production sale were donated to HYFA. It has continued to grow as a way for organizations, families and ranches to support the Hereford youth and the future of the breed. This fall, many more families are joining this campaign and giving back to HYFA’s pillars and the mission of the foundation on behalf of the NJHA members it supports.

Jensen Ranch, Courtland Kan., are participating in the Foundation 1 Campaign as long-time partners of the campaign, with a percentage of The Chosen Sale going towards the pillars of leadership and. The sale will be Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at Sander’s Ranch, Louisburg, Kan., and the Jensen family and HYFA invite you to the sale and thank you for your support of the Foundation 1 Campaign.

During the Ladies of the Royal Sale, the NJHA and HYFA continue the tradition of Lot 1, offering the Pick of the Paintings, reliving the glory and historical remembrance of the 25^th Anniversary of the Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE). JNHE enthusiasts got to see these beautiful works of art come to life during the Grand Daddy of ‘Em All. The CHOICE is yours as these custom canvas paintings by the talented artist, Michelle Weber, Lake Benton, Minn., kick off the sale and will be a treasured piece in your home or office. Lot 1 supports NJHA leadership and educational programs and Lot 2 will help fund the National Hereford Women’s Faces of Leadership Scholarship program.

GET READY, IT’S NJHA FED STEER SHOOTOUT TIME

Are you interested in participating in the 2025 NJHA Fed Steer Shootout? We are excited to announce, those who receive accolades, buckles and awards from the 2025 competition, will be recognized on a global stage while the World Hereford Conference celebrates Hereford youth during next year’s  AHA Annual Meeting in Kansas City.

This program is an industry-leading opportunity for members to gain invaluable industry education and experience, giving them the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of the cattle feeding and packing industries through a comprehensive educational contest. The contest is held at HRC Feed Yards in Scott City, Kan., and delivery dates to the feed yard will be Dec. 14-17. To enter the 2025 contest, fill out the Interest Form by Nov. 1. You will then be contacted to collect information about the steers you plan to enter.  You can also download the Enrollment Form and Health History Form below and email to Trey Befort at tbefort@herefordbeef.org.

WESTERN STATES JUNIOR MEMBERS APPLY TODAY

The Western States Hereford Association (WSHA) and Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) offer scholarship opportunities in memory of Willard Wolf and John Ascuaga, who were committed to the Hereford breed and it’s people and were a big reason for the success of the “Nugget” Show and Sale in Reno for decades.  These scholarships provide tuition assistance to Western State’s Junior Hereford Association members pursuing postsecondary education and encourage leadership, achievement in and out of the showring, academic success and community service for young Hereford enthusiasts.

The Willard Wolf Memorial and John Ascuaga Hereford Scholarship application deadline is November 1^st. All Western States Hereford Association junior members are eligible for these scholarships that honor the Hereford legacies of Wolf and Ascuaga. $3,000 will be awarded in scholarships from the Willard Wolf Fund and $3,000 will be awarded from the John Ascuaga Fund. Apply today if you are a junior within this region, and don’t miss out on this opportunity for assistance with your college journey.
