KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two $5,000 Bill & Jo Ellard Scholarships were awarded to Austin and Taylor Belle Matheny of Mays Lick, Ky., Oct. 27 at the American Hereford Association (AHA) Hereford Honorees Reception during the AHA Annual Meeting and Conference in Kansas City, Mo. The scholarships were two of 23 awarded through the Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) totaling more than $147,500.

Austin Matheny
The 21-year-old son of Andrew and Suzanne Matheny, Austin, is a senior at Kansas State University (K-State) majoring in animal sciences. Austin is currently a member of the K-State livestock judging team and also serves as the membership chair of the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA).

Taylor Belle Matheny
Taylor, 20, is a junior at K-State majoring in agricultural communications and animal sciences. Taylor plans to pursue a career in the livestock publications field. She served as the National Hereford Queen in 2015 and was recently elected to the NJHA board of directors.

Jo and the late Bill Ellard are longtime supporters of Hereford youth and two scholarships are given annually in their honor.
