KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Renee Lock, Avon, Ill., exhibited the grand champion bred-and-owned bull and Kati Theresa Fehlman, Junction City, Kan., showed the reserve grand champion July 5, at the 19th annual VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo in Grand Island, Neb. The bred-and-owned bull show was sponsored by GeneSource and Bar A Cattle Co., Schulenburg, Texas.

Ryan Rathmann, Lubbock, Texas, sorted 95 bulls to name the champions.

Lock’s bull, RL LCC Rolltide 27E ET, won grand and division IV champion. He was a April 16, 2017, son of TFR KU Roll The Dice 1326 that showed with expected progeny differences (EPDs) of calving ease (CE) -8.4; birth weight (BW) 5.6; weaning weight (WW) 64; yearling weight (YW) 109; dry matter intake (DMI) 0.4; scrotal circumference (SC) 1.0; sustained cow fertility (SCF) 11.0; maternal milk (MM) 19; maternal calving ease (MCE) -4.3; mature cow weight (MCW) 115; udder suspension (UDDR) 1.15; teat size (TEAT) 1.05; carcass weight (CW) 89; rib fat (FAT) -0.001; ribeye area (REA) 0.68; marbling (MARB) -0.01; baldy maternal index (BMI$) 21; brahman influence index (BII$) 18; and certified Hereford beef  (CHB$) 39.

The reserve champion bull, KT’S Hawk 605, was first named division V champion. He is an Sept. 24, 2016, son of GKB 88X Laramie B293 and showed with EPDs of CE -7.4; BW 4.7; WW 63; YW 91; DMI 0.5; SC 0.6; SCF 16.0; MM 25; MCE -1.7; MCW 112; UDDR 1.20; TEAT 1.20; CW 66; FAT -0.046; REA 0.54; MARB -0.07; BMI$ 24; BII$ 21; and CHB$ 27.

    Division III reserve champion: Caleb, Faith, and Noah Benedict, Dewey, Ill., with BH 02A Empire 08E by JDH Wyarno 95ET.

    Division IV reserve champion: Nick Deppe, Maquoketa, Iowa, with DEP Gold Member 171 ET by CRR 719 Catapult 109.

    Division V reserve champion: Taylor Miller, Lebanon, Mo., with MH Apostle 6008 ET by NJW 98S R117 Ribeye 88X ET.
