MADISON, Wis. – Hereford juniors competed in the Hereford bowl at the 2023 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” on July 10, in Madison, Wis. 

The Hereford bowl is an individual and team competition where members demonstrate their knowledge of Hereford beef cattle. Participants take a preliminary 50-question written test, then the top four teams compete in a buzzer match to determine the winner. 

The senior high individual in the written test went to Allyson Hamilton, Atlanta, Texas.. In the junior division of the written test, the high individual was Jarrett Worrell, Mason, Texas.

The winning team in the junior division was Texas with members: Gage Creamer, Waxahachie; Kinleigh Guidry, Brenham; Aubrey Lockhart, Caldwell; and Jarrett Worrell, Mason. Second place went to team Illinois with members: Ella Bane, Towanda; Cora Chapman, Seneca; Addison Duis, Petersburg; and Brogan Keltner, Pearl City. 

In the senior division, the winning team was Illinois, with members: Molly Biggs, Dixon; Kendall Boatman, Rockford; Morgan Richardson, Capron; and Kira Sayre, Arenzville. Second place went to Texas, with team members: Mason Allan, Nocona; Aidyn Barber, Channing; Bryden Barber, Channing; and Allyson Hamilton, Atlanta, Texas.

The Hereford bowl competition allows contestants to demonstrate good sportsmanship. The contest provides an educational experience for both participants and spectators.

Exhibitors from 38 states and Canada plan to participate in the JNHE, “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” July 8-14. More than 500 National Junior Hereford Association members are excited to participate in educational and leadership programs throughout the week-long event. Contests range from the future professionals and Hereford bowl to cattle judging and fitting contests. The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) supports these educational and scholarship opportunities.
