KANSAS CITY, Mo. Members of the National Junior Hereford Association claimed top honors at the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) junior Hereford show Jan. 12 in Denver, Colo. Nick Fitzsimmons, Perry, Okla., judged the 68-head show in the Stadium Arena at the NWSS. 

Kinnick Paulsen, Preston, Iowa, exhibited the grand champion horned female, HAWK Murphy 14J ET. She is a March 26, 2021, daughter of KLD RW Marksman D87 ET and was first named champion spring yearling female. The reserve champion horned female, H BL Carmel 223 ET, was exhibited by Cierra, Claire and Cricket Collins, Chattanooga, Okla. The Feb. 4, 2022, daughter of UPS Entice 9365 ET, came out of the junior heifer calf division.  

The grand champion polled female, HAWK Myla 39J ET, was exhibited by Paige Lemenager, Hudson, Ill. The May 21, 2021, female is a daughter of KLD RW Marksman D87 ET and first won champion intermediate yearling female. The reserve champion polled female, GSCC Thunderbird K06, was exhibited by Lauren Frederick, Hutchinson, Kan., and is a Feb. 22, 2022, daughter of KLD RW Marksman D87 ET. She was first named champion junior heifer calf.

“I think as you look back out here, it’s not just about the quality of the cattle, it’s the quality of the kids,” Fitzsimmons said during the selection of the champion junior polled Hereford female.
