A recent visit to John Ranch, Huntsville, Mo., was made to evaluate the operation and progress of its 2019 calf crop. As part of participating in the National Reference Sire Program (NRSP), this commercial cow-calf operation is utilizing Hereford genetics to improve its herd.

“It was exciting to see so many baldy calves on black cows,” says Shane Bedwell, AHA chief operating officer and director of breed improvement. “John Ranch has done a great job as a test herd for the NRSP.”

Mike John, owner and operator of John Ranch, was pleased to report outstanding conception as he took advantage of technologies offered through Trans Ova to build his cowherd. He purchased F1 baldy embryos produced by Trans Ova and plans to use those baldy females as a base of his future herd.

“It’s humbling to see Trans Ova rely on Hereford genetics to build a high-quality F1 female for producers,” says Bedwell. We are excited to see how Trans Ova continues with this propagation of Hereford genetics.”
