KANSAS CITY, Mo. — PCC New Mexico Lady 8170 sold for $70,000 to benefit the Hereford Youth Foundation of America’s (HYFA) Growing a Lasting Legacy Campaign, Jan. 17, at the Mile High Night Sale during the National Western Stock Show.
The Lot 1 Foundation Female has highlighted the national Hereford sale in Denver for more than a decade and has raised a total of $960,000 to support HYFA’s mission: To encourage, recognize and reward the development of life skills and values in the next generation of leaders by providing education, scholarship and leadership opportunities for Hereford youth.
New Mexico Lady was purchased by Whitey and Weyman Hunt of Innisfail Farm, Madison, Ga.
“It’s important to invest in Hereford youth in order to keep [the breed] moving forward. They are our future and we’ve got to support them in every way and guide them and let them guide us as well,” Whitey Hunt says. “The National Junior Hereford Association is a great opportunity for young people to learn skills of working with people, communication and you could go on and on. The young people who are in Denver, they are our future and they are the ones who are going to be our leaders.”
PCC New Mexico Lady 8170 was donated by Pérez Cattle Co., Nara Visa, N.M. The March 7, 2018, heifer is a daughter of NJW 79Z 22Z Mighty 49C ET.
“The Hereford breed is rich with traditions and the Lot 1 Foundation Female that headlined the national sale in Denver was definitely no exception,” says Amy Cowan, American Hereford Association director of youth activities and foundation. “This year, HYFA was fortunate to have two families step up to support Hereford youth, with the Pérez family on the donor side and the Hunt family on the buying side. As a past director of the National Junior Hereford Association [NJHA], Kyle Pérez appreciates the opportunities the Hereford junior program gave him as a youth and it is exciting that he and his wife, Tonya, are bringing their children, Peyton and Libby, up through the ranks of the NJHA. Innisfail Farms and the Hunt family know, too, that the junior program is a great resource for our kids, and I so appreciate Whitey and Weyman’s belief in the Foundation and for helping us make a difference for the next generation.”
