KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Ethan Hopkins, Winchester, Tenn., was honored as the 2021 Hereford Junior
Herdsman of the Year on July 9 during the 2021 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE),
Hereford Spectacular, in Kansas City, Mo. He was awarded a $2,500 scholarship sponsored by the
Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) and Sullivan Supply.
Hopkins is the son of Roy and Kim Hopkins and plays a key role in his family’s Hereford
operation alongside his brothers who are the fourth generation. Ethan is involved in every step of
their operation from breeding decisions to entering the show ring. He was excited to be a
candidate for the junior herdsman award because he has looked up to many past herdsman
winners.
Ethan recalls the 2020 Junior National Hereford Expo as the most memorable JNHE for
his family because he won his first division and was nominated for herdsman. Ethan says,
“When we started out, we were at the bottom of the class and putting in the work towards our
goal showed our work paid off.”
