Hereford Youth Show Their Fitting Skills at “The Grand Daddy of ’Em All”

Grand Island, Neb. –  State associations gathered their best junior fitters to go head-to-head in the team fitting contest sponsored by Sullivan Supply, Dunlap, Iowa. The Sullivan Supply fitting contest was held July 8, during the the 25th annual VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), “The Grand Daddy of ‘Em All,” in Grand Island, Neb. The top three teams were recognized. 

Each team consisted of one senior, one intermediate and one junior or peewee exhibitor. The teams were given 40 minutes to fit their animal while Melissa Grimmel Schaake and Shane Schaake, Manhattan, Kan., judged the contest. 

Team Nebraska, consisting of members Maddison Lienemann, Hildreth; Landon Lienemann, Hildreth; and Kinleigh Eckhoff, Aurora, took the champion spot once the adhesive settled. 

Second place went to team Washington with members: Brecken Eatherton, Castle Rock;  Sydney Betes, Moses Lake; and Kyle Belles, Spangle.

The third-place team was Indiana with members: Braxton Carper, Vevay; Clayton Musser, Otterbein; and Sage Lawrence, Avilla.

The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) holds multiple educational contests and events during JNHE. Members are encouraged to participate in these educational events and connect with other National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members.
