MADISON, Wis. – The team fitting contest was held at the VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” in Madison, Wis., on July 10, and the top three teams were recognized.
State associations sent in their best junior fitters to go head-to-head in the fitting contest sponsored by Sullivan Supply, Dunlap, Iowa. Team Indiana, with members: Dylan Kottkamp, Clayton; Maddox Gunn, Greenfield; and Ava Doig, St. Paul; reigned supreme when the adhesive settled.

Each team consisted of one senior, one intermediate and one junior or peewee exhibitor. The teams were allowed 40 minutes to fit their animal, and the 2023 Hereford Herdsman of the Year Kyle Lemmon, Manchester, Md., judged the contest.

Second place went to Kansas, with team members: Jase Beltz, Canton; Josie Beltz, Canton; and Laynee Greenwood, Alma.

The third place team was Nebraska with team members: Maddison Lienemann, Hildreth; Landon Lienemann, Hildreth; and Jaxon Snell, Red Cloud.

Exhibitors from 38 states and Canada plan to participate in the “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” July 8-14. More than 500 National Junior Hereford Association members are excited to participate in educational and leadership programs throughout the week-long event. Contests range from the future professionals and Hereford bowl to cattle  judging and fitting. The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) supports these educational and scholarship opportunities.
