2021 Future Professionals Winners

Winners of the senior and intermediate division from left are Madison Sifford, Goldvein, Va.,
and Haley Mouser, Tenstrike, Minn.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – More than 850 youth and their families from 41 states gathered at the 22nd
annual VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Kansas City, July 3-9, to compete in
educational and leadership events both in and out of the showring.

A wide array of contests and opportunities at the JNHE is what makes the National Junior
Hereford Associations (NJHA) event unique. These contests allow the Hereford Youth Foundation of
America (HYFA) and the NJHA to carry out their joint mission of leadership and education.

Future Professionals

The objective of the contest is for NJHA members to create a resume based on factual work experiences,
education, etc., which they can use for future career and scholarship purposes. Resumes were judged prior
to the JNHE and the top five resumes competed in an interview round.

Bridging the Gap

In addition to the Future Professionals contest, the 2021 JNHE held its second-ever Bridging the Gap
College and Career Fair. Juniors of all ages were encouraged to go speak with representatives of colleges,
universities and future careers, to practice their networking skills, learn about higher education and set
future career goals.

Young professionals in the industry who were guests of the Bridging the Gap program, were also
the judges for the Future Professionals contest and held an insight session after the contest to review with
junior members ways to improve resumes, cover letters and interview skills.

The winner in the senior division of the future professionals contest, judged by Bridging the Gap
professionals, was Madison Sifford, Goldvein, Va. Sifford outlined her experience as the Virginia State
FFA vice president and her involvement in 4-H in her interview with the NJHA marketing brand manager
committee representatives. She also reflected on her time as the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service
intern.

Haley Mouser, Tenstrike, Minn., won the intermediate division of the future professionals contest.
Vying for the Future Professionals Scholarship, Mouser described her accomplishments creating
curriculum for Minnesota 4-H Science of Agriculture Response Challenge for elementary students on
genetic technologies in agriculture.
