MADISON, Wis. — National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members received special recognition during the final awards ceremony of 2023 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE), “Mad Dash to the Hereford Bash,” in Madison, Wis., on July 14. The premier breeder awards, premier exhibitor award, GKB Super States award and Golden Pitchfork award all recognize outstanding individuals and groups who demonstrated dedication to their Hereford cattle during JNHE.

Landry Allan, Nocona, Texas, was named junior premium breeder. Hawk Livestock, Earlville, Ill., was named adult premier breeder. Lauren, Nicholas and Brady Jones, Darlington, Wis., grabbed the premier exhibitor banner.

The GKB Super States contest is split into two divisions: small states (less than 25 head of cattle shown at the JNHE) and large states (more than 25 head shown). Throughout the week, members earn points for their state via contest placings and showring standings. Idaho topped the small states division, and Oklahoma won the large states award.  GKB Cattle, Desdemona, Texas, sponsors the GKB Super States contest.

The Gold Pitchfork award celebrates state groups for stall maintenance and cleanliness. Each year, the award is presented to a state association maintaining a combination of cleanliness, stalling uniformity and decoration of the area representing the state. Wisconsin’s youth exhibitors won the award this year.
