KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The stakes were high as judge Harlan Yochum, Sapulpa, Okla., sorted the 38-head National Hereford bull show and 102-head Hereford female show at the Fort Worth Stock Show in Fort Worth, Texas.
“This champion drive is a perfect example of the different types and kinds that you need to sell bulls,” said judge Harlan Yochum. “I really commend your breed for raising and breeding cattle that are functional, sound and correct.”
Each year the Texas Hereford and Texas Polled Hereford Association’s honor two families who have made an impact on the breed and this year the horned show honoree was Muleshoe Ranch, Breckenridge, Texas, and the polled show honoree was Donlie McMullin, Copperas Cove, Texas.
Below are the champions from the open bull and female shows.
Bull show champions
The champion polled bull was owned by Michael Perez, Nara Vista, N.M., and Crayton and Cora Belle Chapman, Seneca, Ill., with PCC 7009 173D Maverick 0183 ET, sired by NJW 79Z Z311 Endure 173D ET. The February 16, 2020, entry was first named champion polled yearling bull.
Fitz Genetics, Perry, Okla., was named reserve champion polled bull with Fitz Dignified 104J. Sired by T/R BPF AmericanClassic, this champion polled spring bull calf was born March 16, 2021.
Aidyn Barber, Channing, Texas; Ryon Cox, Mt Pleasant, Texas; Edwards Ranch, May, Texas and Drew Perez, Canyon, Texas, took home horned champion honors with BR ER Big Country 007 ET. This son of BR Hutton 4030ET was born April 8, 2020, and was first named champion horned yearling bull.
Chad Earl Breeding, Miami, Texas, received the horned reserve champion bull banner with B&C EL Sensation 1207J. The champion horned spring bull calf was born March 5, 2021, and was sired by B&C EL JEFE 7086E.
Female show champions
Kynlee Dailey, Kingston, Okla., claimed the horned champion female title with BK CMCC Jungle Fever 146J ET, sired by SR Dominate 308F ET. The January 20, 2021, female was first awarded champion horned junior heifer calf honors.
The horned reserve champion female went to Aidyn Barber, Channing, Texas, with BR Gabriella 0142. The BR 124Y Travis E132 ET daughter was born April 1, 2020, and was first awarded champion horned spring yearling female.
Bryden Barber, Channing, Texas, and his division polled spring yearling female, BR Merida H031 ET, were awarded the polled champion female title. This daughter of UPS Sensation 2296 ET was born March 21, 2020. Kamdyn, Berkeley and Denver McKay, Orlando, Okla., with MCKY Red Eye 1035 ET, claimed the polled reserve champion female title. The January 21, 2021, entry was sired by CH High Roller 756 ET and was first awarded the junior polled heifer calf.
Other show awards
Gary & Kathy Buchholz, GKB Cattle, Waxahachie, Texas, were recognized as both horned and polled premier exhibitors. The polled premier breeder was Ben Jensen, Courtland, Kan. Horned premier breeder was awarded to Buck Cattle Co., Madill, Okla.
