LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Troy Heath, Cooksville, Md., topped the steer show with Heaths Ace 2424, July 16 in Louisville, Ky., during the annual VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo, “Live from Louisville.”

Heath also claimed the grand champion bred-and-owned title along with champion division III and champion division III bred-and-owned steer with his 1,395-pound steer by KLD RW Marksman D87 ET.

Fellow Marylander Lane Cady, New Windsor, Md., claimed reserve grand champion steer and reserve champion division III steer honors with SILO H18 Bubba 2405 ET, a 1,375-pound son of BK Red River H18 ET.

Easton Harfst, Battle Creek, Mich., showed the reserve champion bred-and-owned and reserve division III bred-and-owned steer, HC Electric 403, a 1,398-pound son of SCG Showtime No Limit 111ET.

Chan Phillips, Maysville, Ky., evaluated the 72-head steer show.

“It’s been a minute since I judged the steers at Hereford junior nationals. I think the last time I did it was in Sioux Falls, S.D., maybe 20 years ago,” Phillips said before naming the grand champion steer. “Boy, we’ve changed a lot over that time; we’ve changed for the better. My hat’s off to you breeders.”
