Over the next few months we’ll be introducing you to members of our staff. This week we’re highlighting one of the people in the member services department, Abby Mahanes.

The AHA Member Services department gives you flexible options to choose what works best for your operation. Regardless if you are a performance breeder or pedigree breeder, or if you prefer online recording or traditional mailing methods, the member service team is available to serve you and your operation.

Where is your hometown?

Liberty, MO – I was born and raised in KC.

What is your title at the AHA
Customer Service Representative

What department are you a part of?
Member Services

What are you responsible for on a typical day?
Helping with MyHerd questions and troubleshooting, working with breeders to keep track of cattle records and transfers. I also am the go to for TSU’s.

How long you’ve worked at the AHA?
I celebrated 2 years on July 18

What is your favorite part of the job?
Getting to talk to the breeders – they are such a joy to work with. The people I’ve met and have been able to speak with over the past 2 years are truly amazing. Each breeder I’ve been able to build a relationship with has helped make my two years here at AHA some of the best. It doesn’t matter if I’m in constant contact with them or if they call every few months when they need help. When I get to help them out and chat with them it always brightens my day.

Why do you like working at the AHA?
I like that I am able to use my degree in various capacities from working with records to being able to answer the occasional DNA question. I have a passion for agriculture and being able to work at Hereford has been a wonderful opportunity.

I just really want to thank the breeders – I came into this job straight out of college with minimal knowledge of the Hereford breed compared to the other breeds I studied while in school. But the people who raise the red and white cattle have truly captured my heart. Their passion for the breed helps drive my own. I look forward to my future with this breed and can’t wait to help the next breeder that calls me.
