SyAnn Foster, American Hereford Association (AHA) education and information service coordinator, attended the National Agriculture in the Classroom (NAITCO) Conference June 20-23 in Kansas City, Mo. More than 500 educators and state representatives gathered in Kansas City to discuss increasing agricultural literacy outreach in PreK-12 education.

The NAITCO and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)–Agriculture in the Classroom Team, support state programs by providing a network of opportunities to improve agricultural literacy, awareness, knowledge and appreciation among PreK-12 teachers and their students.

“I really enjoyed visiting with the educators and discussing how we can include Herefords in their classrooms,” Foster said. “We’ve noticed that most children only think of cattle being black and white. We are working together with NAITC to create curriculum with a Hereford influence to increase their awareness of our breed.”

Foster handed out educational packets with information about the AHA and its subsidiaries for teachers to share with their students.
