LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Top youth fitters from state junior Hereford associations went head-to-head in the team fitting contest, sponsored by Sullivan Supply of Dunlap, Iowa. The competition took place on July 14 during the VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Louisville, Ky. The top three teams earned special recognition for their outstanding performance.
Teams consisted of one senior, one intermediate and one junior or peewee exhibitor and each team was given 40 minutes to fit their animal. The contest was evaluated by Kari Brumley, Orovada, Nev.
As the adhesive set and the final touches were made, the champion team was West Virginia, featuring members, Olivia Ullom, Prosperity, Pa.; Kora Hawkins, Jane Lew; and Aaron Shriver, Grafton.
Second place went to team Indiana, with members: Bremley Doig, St. Paul; Wyatt Gunn, Greenfield; and Garrison Siedling, Cedar Grove.
To round out the top three teams, third place was team Michigan, with members Easton Harfst, Battle Creek; Kaytlyn Harfst, Battle Creek; and Elayna Hawkins, Freeport.
The Hereford Youth Foundation of America (HYFA) upholds their educational pillar by supporting the educational contests and events at the JNHE. These programs provide Hereford youth with the opportunity to develop valuable skills that prepare them to become knowledgeable, self-driven leaders in today’s world, competing outside of the showring and connecting with fellow National Junior Hereford Association members.
