presented by Abby Spindle, retiring Vice Chairman and Montana Lawrence, retiring NJHA Chairman at
the 2021 Junior National Hereford Expo.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Danny and Amanda Davis, Maple Hill, Kan., were honored as the 2021
Advisors of the Year on July 8, during the 2021 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo in Kansas City, Mo.
Danny and Amanda have served as advisors of the Kansas Junior Hereford Association (KJHA)
for 21 years and make a point to serve the juniors of their state in any way they can. The couple grew up
raising Hereford cattle and were both active in the junior association with Danny serving on the American
Junior Hereford Association Board of Directors, and Amanda serving as the Illinois Hereford Queen.
They currently run Danny’s family cattle operation, Davis Herefords, in Maple Hill, Kan.
“Amanda and Danny have demonstrated their passion for Herefords and kids even before they
had children of their own,” says Jessica Jensen, KJHA secretary. The Davis’s children; Jalyn, Danica, and
Brinley are all active in the junior association.
“They are always eager to help new members learn the ropes,” says Jensen. “They make a point
to visit with junior members at the various state activities and support them in their activities.”
Danny assists the Kansas junior board members with the judging contest, steer weigh in and class
breaks. He also mentors the Kansas fitting team that will compete at JNHE.
Amanda assists members and state directors with the banquet, photo contests, and creative events for younger participants. Both guide the junior board with organizing their meetings, planning the annual state show, and
trip to junior nationals. They have also served as judges for JNHE speech contests and scholarships. They
both played significant roles in the merger of the Kansas Junior Hereford Association and the Kansas
Junior Polled Hereford Association. They have helped grow the junior association to 60 members and
along with fellow advisor, Sue Rowland, host an annual three-day state breed show in May.
Along with the junior association, Danny and Amanda are active in their local community.
Danny is an agriculture education teacher and FFA advisor. He also auctioneers for the annual Kansas Hereford
Association meeting and judges different livestock shows. Amanda is a math teacher, and cheerleading
choreographer and sponsor. “The Kansas Junior Hereford Board appreciates all that Danny and Amanda do for us,” says
Jensen.
