Feed/Nutrition Program: Cows are feed grass hay and caked daily, through winter and into calving. Calves are raised on mothers side all summer with no creep. Cows are then transitioned to stocks until winter feeding and caking operations.
Management Comments: All cows and heifers a developed with the bottom line in mind, we look for low input animals with high efficiency. Cows are raised on grass hay and cake and calve from February to April. Cows are moved out to green grass when grasses are established. Animals are rotationally grazed on leased ground covering both cool and warm season grasses. Pairs travel across 160 acres of leased ground with topography demanding animals be sure footed. Calves are weaned using quiet weans. Quiet weans are put in with vaccinations and the calves are turned back out with cows for another week. Calves are weaned labor day each year and taken to head quarters while cows remain on their pasture. Calves are place back on pasture and rotationally grazed, CHS Bull Challenger is fed to transition animals to bunks. Challenger is increase in steps until reaching 1.5% of animals body weight. Calves will be fed Bull Challenger with free choice hay through the winter. Cows are grazed on crop residues, until weather permitting transitioning to grass hay and protein cake. Animals are raised for sound structure and efficiency.
