Riley Coates, a Baldwin City, Kan., native, joined the American Hereford Association (AHA) records team as a customer service representative June 15.

In her role with the Association, Coates will communicate with Hereford breeders, help resolve questions and interpret discrepancies, while maintaining accurate records and promoting participation in AHA programs and services.

“Riley’s livestock background combined with her drive to help others makes her an asset to our team and Hereford breeders,” says Shane Bedwell, AHA chief operating officer and director of breed improvement. “We are really excited to have her join the records department.”

Coates graduated from Kansas State University in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences and industry. While she was at the university, she was a member of the meat judging, meat animal evaluation and wool judging teams along with the Block and Bridle Club. Coates was active in 4-H — exhibiting pigs and cattle, and she continues to assist with her family’s showpig operation. She is a Douglas County 4-H volunteer and has worked in their Extension office as a summer engagement intern.

“I am excited to join the AHA,” Coates says. “It will be a great opportunity to cultivate relationships and assist others within the agriculture industry, which has always been a passion of mine.”
