The American Hereford Association’s updated genetic evaluation using Biometric Open Language Tools (BOLT) software was highlighted in this week’s edition of the Western Livestock Journal. The article, written by Dr. Bob Hough, gives an insight on the new genetic evaluation and how it will affect the beef industry.
“Ultimately, Hereford stakeholders will have the most precise and reliable genetic predictions upon which to make objective decisions,” Dr. Bob Hough writes. “This can only help the breed in the years to come and will help assure Hereford genetics are having a positive impact on the beef industry.”
Hough is the retired executive secretary of the Red Angus Association of America. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State, a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a doctoral degree from Virginia Tech – all in animal science.
