KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Aidyn, Bryden and Rylee Barber, Channing, Texas and their heifer, BR Anastasia E114 ET rose to the top of the bred-and-owned female show during the 2018 VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Grand Island, Neb., July 5. Payton Vogel, Hartley, Iowa, with MAV Cotton’s Coon 782 ET claimed the reserve grand champion title. The bred-and-owned heifer show was sponsored by Buck Cattle Co., Madill, Okla., Moore Cattle Co., Madill, Okla., and Express Ranches, Yukon, Okla. Judge Chris Mullinix, Manhattan, Kan., sorted the 369 head shown.
The Barber family claimed grand champion honors and topped division II with an Oct. 17, 2017 daughter of CRR 719 Catapult 109. She showed with expected progeny differences (EPDs) of calving ease (CE) -3.6; birth weight (BW) 5.1; weaning weight (WW) 70; yearling weight (YW) 116; dry matter intake (DMI) 0.4; scrotal circumference (SC) 0.9; sustained cow fertility (SCF) 13.5; maternal milk (MM) 24; maternal calving ease (MCE) -2.0; mature cow weight (MCW) 110; udder suspension (UDDR) 1.10; teat size (TEAT) 1.10; carcass weight (CW) 80; rib fat (FAT) 0.004; ribeye area (REA) 0.64; marbling (MARB) -0.12; baldy maternal index (BMI$) 23; brahman influence index (BII$) 20; and certified Hereford beef (CHB$) 35.
Vogel won reserve grand champion and reserve champion division II with a Nov. 8, 2017, daughter of NJW 78P TwentyTwelve 190Z ET. She showed with EPDs of CE -9.0; BW 5.9; WW 56; YW 101; DMI 0.0; SC 0.7; SCF 13.1; MM 25; MCE -0.5; MCW 116; UDDR 1.10; TEAT 1.10; CW 73; FAT -0.036; REA 0.53; MARB 0.07; BMI$ 23; BII$ 20; and CHB$ 36.
