As we jump into this new year and new decade, I have decided to take on a new outlook each time I ring in the new year. This year I picked out a word that I will set goals around and be able to push myself out of my comfort zone with. My word for 2020 is explore. I chose this word for many reasons. The true meaning of the word is to travel through unfamiliar areas.

This year, I am excited to travel to New Zealand for the World Hereford Conference and explore the Hereford breed in another country across the world. I also plan on exploring new classes in college this year which will broaden my horizons, into areas I know little about.

Here are a few things I encourage you to “explore” in this new year as a junior member:

  • A new contest at the Junior National Hereford Expo or at your local state show. (Exciting news, there will be a few new contests this year so be on the lookout!!!)
  • Get out of your comfort zone by exploring classes in school that you never thought you would like.
  • Encourage yourself to explore new friends, whether that be at a show or in school, everyone always is looking for a new friend.
  • Find a person in your life to be a mentor for, younger kids are always looking up for advice and help, you could be a positive light in someone’s life.

Happy New Year and don’t forget to step out of your comfort zone and EXPLORE!
