New Junior Hereford Board Members, Officers Elected
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Four new National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) Board members were elected as well as a new officer team selected at the 11th annual VitaFerm® Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) July 9 in Indianapolis.
The officer team for 2010-2011 is chairman – Rossie Blinson, Buies Creek, N.C.; vice chairman – Danielle Starr, Manawa, Wis.; communications chair – Mallorie Phelps, Grandview, Texas; membership chair – Jake Metch, Bainbridge, N.Y.; leadership chair – Andrew Albin, Newman, Ill., and foundation chair – Justin Bacon, Prairie Grove, Ark. Also serving on the board are directors Kevin Ernst, Windsor, Colo., and Hunter Grayson, Watkinsville, Ga.
Tamar Adcock, Assumption, Ill.; Austin Buzanowski, Pompeys Pillar, Mont.; Jaime Hanson, Comfrey, Minn.; and Matt Woolfolk, Columbia, Tenn., received their maroon jackets as new NJHA directors during the awards ceremony Friday night. Two delegates from each state junior Hereford association voted for the individuals they wanted to represent the membership. The four retiring junior board members announced the results and passed their jackets onto the new leadership.
Tamar Adcock is the 18-year-old daughter of Jim and Jan Adcock. This fall she will be a freshman at Kansas State University. Adcock has been a member of the Illinois Junior Hereford Association for 10 years where she served as director, reporter and secretary. Some of her accomplishments include receiving the NJHA Golden Bull Achievement Award, JNHE reserve champion intermediate showman and several other awards in and out of the showring. As an active FFA member, Adcock served as her chapter secretary, participated on the livestock judging team and was named the state beef production entrepreneurship winner in 2010.
Austin Buzanowski is the 18-year-old son of Bernie and Stacie Buzanowski. He is a sophomore at the University of Wyoming where he is majoring in physiology. After Buzanowski receives his degree he plans on going to medical school. Buzanowski was an active FFA member, receiving his state, chapter and greenhand degrees. Aside from being competitive in the showring, Buzanowski has been active in the Montana Junior Hereford Association where he has served as president, treasurer, reporter and as a director. He has participated in nine JNHEs. Additionally, he was named outstanding state junior in 2007, served as a voting delegate three times and received the Junior Golden Bull Award in 2006.
Jaime Hanson is the 18-year-old daughter of James and Jeri Hanson. This fall she will be attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, majoring in animal science. Hanson has been active in the Comfrey Comets 4-H Club, Redwood Area Cattlemen and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Hanson has served as the Minnesota Junior Hereford Breeders president and was named the outstanding state junior member in 2009.
Matt Woolfolk is the 20-year-old son of John and Pat Woolfolk. He is a junior at Mississippi State University majoring in animal and dairy science. Upon receiving his degree, he plans to attend graduate school in the field of animal science and then pursue a career in the beef industry. Woolfolk has been a member of his state association for 14 years, serving the offices of president, vice president, reporter and chairman for the 2007 Southeastern Regional Junior Hereford Show. Woolfolk is a two-time champion of the illustrated speaking contest while also participating in extemporaneous speech and the judging contest offered at the JNHE. In 2009 Woolfolk was recognized as a Dam of Distinction breeder.
